Saturday Decembe 13, 2014 in NYC: Arleen Spenceley on “Chastity is for Lovers – Single, Happy and (Still) a Virgin” follow by Social

The Catholic Fellowship of NYC invites young adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s for a talk on Saturday December 13th starting at 6:30PM at The Church of the Holy Innocents – Lower Church (128 W37th Street, NY, NY) by our guest speaker, Arlene Spenceley.

***Description of the Talk:***
In her debut book, “Chastity is For Lovers,” seasoned journalist and self-professed “happy virgin” Arleen Spenceley offers a mature, funny, and relatable vision of Catholic teaching on chastity for young adults.

Her book provides perspective on a variety of topics — the difference between chastity and abstinence, how virginity is an affirming and valuable life choice, how the word “purity” can be harmful in ministry settings, how to date well, and why sexual self-control is the best form of marriage preparation and gives single adults the best possible chance to find true love. She carefully avoids using language that shames readers and instead presents a view of chastity that is joyful and positive.

Arleen identifies three commitments adults in all states of life must make in order to practice chastity in a culture that says we shouldn’t: commitments to critical thought, to community, and to Christ.

***About our speaker:***
Arleen Spenceley, age 29, is the author of Chastity is For Lovers (Ave Maria Press, 2014) and a staff writer for the Tampa Bay Times. She is a contributing writer at the Catholic Match Institute, the Chastity Project, and Ignitum Today. Arleen is a SCORRE trained speaker and have spoken at young adult ministeries and Theology on Tap in the the Diocese of St. Petersburg, Diocese of San Diego and Diocese of Orlando. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, both from the University of Florida. To learn more about Arlene, go to http://www.arleenspenceley.com.

***Social:***
After the talk, we invite everyone to a nearby pub/lounge for Happy Hour. Details of the social be provided at the event.
